When should you see a periodontist?

Gum disease rarely hurts in its early stages, so many people do not notice it until teeth start to loosen. Caught early, it is far simpler to treat. Early treatment can often prevent tooth loss and more invasive procedures later.

Periodontist FAQs

What does a periodontist do?

A periodontist is a dentist who completed three additional years of specialty training in the gums and the bone that supports your teeth. Periodontists treat gum disease and gum recession, place dental implants, and perform bone grafting, gum grafting and other gum surgery.

Do I need a referral to see a periodontist in Frisco?

No. Many patients are sent to us by their general dentist, but you can schedule a consultation directly. We keep your dentist informed and coordinate care with them.

What is LANAP, and does it hurt?

LANAP (Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure) treats gum disease with a laser instead of a scalpel and stitches. The laser removes only diseased tissue, so most patients report little discomfort afterward and heal faster than with traditional gum surgery. Sedation is available if you prefer it.

Does insurance cover periodontal treatment or dental implants?

Most PPO plans cover part of periodontal treatment such as deep cleanings and gum surgery. Implant coverage varies widely by plan. We verify your benefits before treatment and offer CareCredit and Lending Club financing for anything not covered.

How long does a dental implant take?

Placing the implant takes about an hour, and recovery is usually easier than after a tooth extraction. The bone then heals around the implant for three to four months before our prosthodontist attaches the final crown. We provide a temporary tooth while you heal.

Where is your office, and who do you serve?

We are at 10050 Legacy Dr. Suite 600, Frisco, TX 75033, near Legacy Drive and Eldorado Parkway. Patients visit us from Frisco, Prosper, Little Elm, Plano, McKinney and The Colony. Hours: Tuesday to Thursday 8 AM to 5 PM, Friday 7 AM to 3 PM.

Most PPO plans accepted. Financing through CareCredit and Lending Club.
