Porcelain veneers are very thin pieces of durable, tooth shaped porcelain that are custom made to achieve the desired shape and color. They are attached to the front of teeth to create a beautiful and attractive smile.
Veneers can completely reshape your teeth and smile. They can often be alternatives to crowns and the ideal solution in treating many dental conditions such as:
- Discolored or stained teeth
- Crooked or misshapen teeth
- Worn or chipped teeth
- Teeth that are too small or too large
As with most dental restorations, veneers are not permanent and may someday need replacement. However, they are very durable and will last many years, giving you a beautiful long lasting smile.
What does getting veneers involve?
Veneer placement is generally performed over the course of two office visits. During your first visit, we will prepare your teeth for veneer placement by gently removing a small amount of enamel from your teeth. We will then use a color guide to match the shade of your natural teeth so that your veneers will look as natural as possible. After this is done, we will place temporary veneers on your teeth until your permanent veneers are ready , usually after about 2-3 weeks.
On your second office visit, we will remove your temporary veneers and place your permanent veneers. Before bonding them to the teeth, we will try on each veneer and evaluate them, making sure that they appear natural, fit comfortably and are to your liking. Veneer placement involves little to no discomfort, and no recovery is needed afterwards.
