Is your denture slipping when you eat or talk, or do you rely on adhesive to keep it in? Implant-supported dentures fix that. A few dental implants act like roots that hold your denture in place, so you can eat, talk and smile with confidence.
At West Frisco Dental and Implants, the whole treatment happens in one office. Dr. Ovcharenko, a board-certified periodontist, places the implants, and Dr. Ortiz-Parsons, a prosthodontist, designs and makes the denture.
Implant-supported dentures vs. regular dentures
A regular denture rests on the gums and is held by suction or adhesive, so it can slip, click and limit what you eat. An implant-supported denture is anchored to implants in the jawbone:
- It stays in place when you eat, talk and laugh
- No denture adhesive
- You can chew foods a loose denture makes difficult
- The implants help keep the jawbone from shrinking, which keeps your face looking fuller
Removable (snap-in) or fixed?
There are two kinds of implant denture, and our doctors help you choose:
- Removable (snap-in) implant denture: the denture clips onto the implants and stays secure while you wear it, but you take it out to clean it.
- Fixed implant denture: the teeth are screwed onto the implants and only the dentist can remove them. When it replaces a full arch on four implants, it is called All-on-4 / Teeth in a Day.
Already wear a denture?
Implants are often still possible after years of wearing a denture, even if you were told you do not have enough bone. A 3D CBCT scan shows exactly what is possible, and bone grafting is done in-house when it is needed.
